Hedcut = a newsroom abbreviation for "headline cut": a hand drawn, uniquely stylized pen and ink illustration, used only by the staff illustrators at The Wall Street Journal. Authentic WSJ stipples are NEVER digitally generated.
I am a senior staff illustrator at the WSJ, one of only 5 illustrators creating authentic hedcut portraits. This blog is an addition to my illustration website (www.nolinovak.com)
I think the latest Wall Street Journal online ads, are absolutely fantastic! The use of my Obama hedcut is just right. I think they look best at this size when used online, because the technique is nicely visible. Good job, guys!
