And, what is my Walter Cronkite story?
It has nothing to do with assassinations, wars or the lunar landings.
Upon coming to the States, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I could still watch the Vienna New Year's Concert every January 1st., something that has become a New Year's tradition all over Europe. In the States it's shown on PBS, and Walter Cronkite hosted it from 1985 - 2007. I spent many groggy 1st of the years' with the Strausses and Walter!
Hedcut = a newsroom abbreviation for "headline cut": a hand drawn, uniquely stylized pen and ink illustration, used only by the staff illustrators at The Wall Street Journal. Authentic WSJ stipples are never digitally generated. I am a senior staff illustrator at the WSJ, one of only 5 illustrators creating authentic hedcut portraits.
Josip Broz Tito
From the archives.
No particular reason for posting this, but going through my drawing archives it brought back memories of growing up in Tito's communist Yugoslavia. As a school child, I drew him many times and one of my collages was even presented to him as my school's gift during one of his birthday celebrations. Ironically, years later I get to draw him for the American "voice of capitalism", The Wall Street Journal! ;-))
